Save with a Senior TAP Card on Big Blue Bus
A Senior TAP card allows older adults age 62+ to receive reduced fares on Big Blue Bus, as well as Metro Bus and Rail, and other TAP participating agencies in Los Angeles County. For trips on fixed-route buses and trains, consider applying for your free Senior TAP Card.
The TAP cards designed for Seniors can be loaded with both Big Blue Bus passes and Stored Value. If you choose to use Stored Value to ride Big Blue Bus or any other TAP participating agency, the reduced rate will automatically be deducted from your TAP card. Transfers are permitted from one Big Blue Bus to another within a two-hour (2) window, when using a TAP card or mobile ticket.
To apply for a Senior TAP card, the following documents are needed:
- Current full-face photo: Color photo (no black/white) with no hats or sunglasses. The image can be uploaded as a digital photo (JPG file format, maximum size 2Mb) or attached as a 2" × 2" or 1" × 1¼" photo to the printed application when applying by mail or in person.
- Official photo ID (provide one of the following): A California ID card; or California driver's license; or Passport is required.
Big Blue Bus and Metro have partnered to make the TAP card application process simple. Eligible applicants may visit Blue: The Transit Store (1444 4th Street, Santa Monica, CA) during regular business hours to submit their completed Senior TAP Card application along with the required documents. Staff will provide a temporary TAP card for immediate use. You can also apply online, visit: taptogo.net/reduced_fare.
